Frequently asked questions

ULTIMATE KARATE has been a proud part of the Worcester community for three decades, offering high‑quality martial arts instruction in a supportive and friendly environment.  We believe in transparency and aim to make your journey into karate as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions asked by prospective students and parents helping you feel informed,
confident and ready to begin your training with us.

What is your style of karate?

Ultimate Karate is based on traditional Wado‑Ryu Karate, delivered with a modern and contemporary edge that blends skills and techniques from multiple martial arts disciplines.

This creates a dynamic Mixed Martial Art taught in a structured, disciplined and easy‑to‑learn format, making our training accessible and enjoyable for students of all ages and abilities.

What age can children start?

Children can typically begin our beginners’ classes from the age of five. We offer age‑appropriate programmes designed to engage younger students and help them develop confidence, coordination and focus.

Please let us know about any learning or medical conditions that may affect training so we can support your child appropriately and safely each lesson.

For the best learning experience, we recommend that children are already attending school before joining our classes, as this prepares them for the interactive structure of listening, following instructions and engaging positively with our coaches.

Do you offer a free trial?

You’re welcome to enjoy a FREE trial lesson when you train with us for the first time. We believe it’s important for every new student to experience our classes firsthand, meet the instructors and get a feel for our training environment.

If you choose to begin your Karate journey with us in January or September, we offer four FREE lessons at any of our venues, giving you plenty of time to settle in and build confidence.

Please contact us to arrange your free trial session and we’ll be happy to book you in.

How much do lessons cost?

Our lessons are priced affordably using a Pay As You Train (PAYT) system, meaning you only pay for the sessions you attend and are never charged for missed lessons.

Put simply, you are not expected to pay weeks in advance ~ payment is to be made just before your lesson to confirm your place in the class. All payments are taken by convenient BACS bank transfer.

Children’s classes are £6.00 per student for one hour, and Teen/Adult classes are £7.50 per student for 90 minutes.

Full details can be found on our Pricing page.

Do I need to sign up for monthly payments?

We pride ourselves on offering excellent value for money without the need for direct debits or advance payments. While most students and parents prefer our simple pay as you train (PAYT) approach, we can offer four‑week block bookings for those who wish to pay ahead.

If a lesson is missed, we can carry the credit forward once to the next available session. Otherwise, we simply ask parents and students to pay just before each class to confirm their place. With PAYT, if you miss a session, you are not charged, keeping training flexible, fair and affordable.

Are you on Social Media?

Ultimate Karate is active on social media, where we share updates, class news and important information for our members.

Our Facebook page is strictly restricted access, available only to our members, parents, coaches and approved subject experts. We take safeguarding extremely seriously, and only images or footage that fully comply with our safeguarding policy are ever shared, the general public cannot join or view this group without admin approval.

Our Instagram and TikTok platforms are accessible to the general public, but all content posted there continues to follow our strict safeguarding protocols and standards, ensuring the safety and privacy of every student.

What should new students wear for their first class?

We recommend that new students wear comfortable, loose‑fitting clothing such as a T‑shirt with track trousers or shorts in warmer weather.

We train traditionally and therefore barefoot, so no special footwear is required; however, some students choose to wear specifically approved martial arts training shoes for additional comfort.

Please bring a refillable water bottle, as carbonated or energy drinks are not permitted in the club.

Can parents stay and watch?

Absolutely! We encourage parents, grandparents, siblings and friends to stay, observe and enjoy watching our classes, especially when supporting younger children, as it helps build trust and allows you to see our teaching methods in action.

We kindly ask that spectators avoid distracting students or calling out to their child, as this can disrupt the flow and safety of the session. Spectators attend strictly at our invitation, and for the welfare of all participants we aim to include everyone wherever possible.

If viewing ever needs to be limited, this will only be done when absolutely necessary and at the discretion of the Instructor in charge at the time.

Is the club insured and accredited?

Yes, ULTIMATE KARATE is fully insured through our NAKMAS policies held with Aviva and Allianz, providing comprehensive Public Liability, Professional Indemnity, and Personal Accident cover.

We remain accredited with the National Association of Karate Martial Arts Schools (NAKMAS) and have been an affiliated organisation since January 2001.

NAKMAS is the only martial arts national governing body to receive approval from the British Standards Institute for quality assurance, giving our students and parents complete confidence in the standards we uphold.

Your safety, confidence and peace of mind are always our highest priority.

Are instructors DBS-checked?

All of our instructors are enhanced DBS‑checked and certified through NAKMAS, who maintain current safeguarding records for everyone within our club.

Our team completes regular safeguarding training, undertakes an annual first‑aid refresher, and receives ongoing tuition in the latest coaching methods to ensure we provide a safe, secure and supportive environment for all students, particularly children and those with challenging or diverse needs.

Do you teach beginners separately?

Our coaching methods are designed to help beginners settle into our classes seamlessly, ensuring every student feels valued, respected and listened to. We take time to understand their views and opinions, and our club ethos is to support development from within.

New or uncertain students often receive dedicated attention and modified exercises so they can learn at their own pace and feel comfortable.

This tried and tested approach, combined with our supportive, family‑friendly atmosphere, helps nervous newcomers settle in quickly with fun and enjoyment at the very heart of what we do.
